The Cross of Saint Peter, a black upside-down cross emoji also known as the Petrine Cross, is a reversed version of the Latin cross. It has historically been used as a sign of Christianity in more recent years, it has also been deployed as an anti-Christian and Satan sign. In the Christian religion, it is connected to the death on the cross of Saint Peter the Apostle.<\/p>\n
Tradition has it that after Peter was condemned to death, he asked for his cross to be turned upside down because he believed he was ashamed of being hanged in the same way as Christ. This legend is where the sign gets its start. According to the story of Origen of Alexandria, the origin of the sign may be traced back to the idea that Peter the Apostle was killed in an inverted position.<\/p>\n
